If you’ve recently moved or obtained new games from another country or region for your Xbox, you may experience an incorrect region code error on your console.

This error may prevent you from playing games from another region, but you may be able to resolve this issue by using one of our solutions.

Region locking is a digital restriction management that prevents users in one region from accessing content designed for another region.

Regional locking is used to delay the delivery of certain content in certain regions or to prevent the importation of foreign products into the gray market.

Finally, regional locking is used to prevent users from accessing content that is prohibited in their country or region.

And that’s because of censorship laws or because the distributor does not have the rights to certain intellectual property outside a certain region.

Both the original Xbox and Xbox 360 were regionally locked, and it was up to the publisher to decide whether the game was going to have a region lock or not.

Many Xbox and Xbox 360 games were regionless, but Xbox Live digital content such as DLCs, movies, and apps were region locked.

Much like its predecessors, the Xbox One was supposed to be region-locked, but Microsoft changed its policy and the final version of Xbox One was released without region restrictions.

While regional locking is useful, sometimes gamers can experience certain issues with it, and today we’re going to show you how to fix those issues.

  1. Change the region code on your console
  2. Check your console region and game region
  3. Delete and re-download your profile
  4. Clear system cache
  5. Restart your console

Xbox incorrect region code error, how to fix it?

Fix – Xbox incorrect region code error

Solution 1 – Change the region code on your console

If you move to another country, you will need to change your region settings in order to make purchases in your new location.

If you decide to change your region, you should be aware that all of your profile information such as your gamertag, achievements, and the rest of the Xbox profile information will be moved with you.

However, not all funds you have in your Microsoft account will be moved, so be sure to spend them before you move.

Although your Xbox Live Gold subscription is moved, it can only work in regions that support Xbox Live Gold, so keep that in mind.

Other subscriptions such as XNA Creator’s Club or Call of Duty Elite will remain active, but they will not work unless they are available in the new region.

As with Groove Music Pass, your subscription will be canceled after you move, but your collection will remain unchanged.

If you subscribe to Groove Music Pass in the new region, keep in mind that not all of the items in your collection will be available.

Now that you know what happens when you change regions, let’s take a look at how to do it. On Xbox One, follow these steps:

  1. Make sure you’re signed in to your Xbox.
  2. Scroll left on the Home screen to open the guide.
  3. To select Settings> All settings> System.
  4. To select Language and location.
  5. Choose your new location from the list and select Restart now.

If you’re using Xbox 360, you can change your region by doing the following:

  1. Sign in to your Microsoft account.
  2. Add a credit card and enter the billing address for the new region.
  3. On your console go to Settings> System.
  4. To choose Console settings> Language and regional settings> Regional settings.
  5. Select the locale you want to use.

Keep in mind that sometimes there may be problems when changing country or region. For example, you won’t be able to change it if you’ve already done so within the past three months.

You also won’t be able to change regions if your account is suspended or if you have a balance owing on your Xbox subscription.

Solution 2 – Check your console region and game region

Both your console and your game have region numbers assigned to them, so be sure to check them.

You will find this number on the back of your console and on the game case.

If those numbers don’t match, you won’t be able to run that specific game on your console. This rule is enforced by the game publisher and you cannot change it.

The only solution, in this case, is to buy a copy that corresponds to your region.

Solution 3 – Delete and re-download your profile

If adjusting the region settings didn’t work, we’ll try to download your profile again. Here’s how to do it:

  1. press the To guide button on your controller.
  2. Go to Settings and select System settings.
  3. Go to Storage> All devices> Player Profiles.
  4. Select your gamertag that you want to remove.
  5. To select Wipe off.
  6. To select Delete profile only. (This removes the profile but leaves the saved games and achievements.)

Solution 4 – Clear the system cache

Clearing the system cache is a universal solution for all kinds of issues, so it can be useful here as well. here’s how

  1. press the To guide button on your controller.
  2. Go to Settings and select System settings.
  3. To select Storage room Where Memory.
  4. Highlight any storage device, then press Yes on your controller (you can select any storage device, as the system will clear the cache for each of them).
  5. To select Clear system cache.
  6. Confirm the action.
  7. Restart your console

Solution 5 – Restart your console

If other solutions don’t work, you might want to do a factory reset. This option will usually remove all files from your console and reset it to its original state.

This means that you will delete all of your accounts, saved games, settings, and files.

If you want to keep your files, we strongly suggest that you save them to a USB drive before starting the reset process. To reset your Xbox to factory settings, follow these steps:

  1. Open the guide by scrolling left on the Home filter.
  2. To select Settings and go to All settings.
  3. To choose System> Console Information and Updates.
  4. To select Reset console.
  5. You should see two options available: Reset and keep my games and apps and Reset and delete everything. We suggest using the first option as this option will only reset your console and delete potentially corrupted data without deleting games and other large files.
  6. If this option does not work and the problem persists, be sure to use Reset and delete everything option. This option will delete all downloaded games, saved games, accounts and apps. Therefore, if you want to keep some of your files, we suggest you back them up before using this option.

Few users reported that factory reset was fixed

Region lock has its pros and cons, and if you are experiencing wrong region code errors on your Xbox, be sure to check to see if your console’s region code matches your game’s region code.

If not, you might want to try changing your region from Xbox settings. If that doesn’t work, consider purchasing a game that matches your current region.
