Lake Region State College will celebrate the expansion of its nursing program in Grand Forks with an open house and ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday, January 29.
The number of students enrolled in the program at Grand Forks has more than doubled since its launch in 2014. Lake Region State College, based in Devils Lake, leases space at 1425 South Columbia Road to Achieve Therapy and Fitness.
As of 2014, eight students were enrolled in the Licensed Practical Nursing Program at Grand Forks. In the fall of 2019, 17 students enrolled in the LPN program.
Meanwhile, in 2018, Lake Region State College added an associate’s degree to the RN program at the Grand Forks site. Sixteen students enrolled in the RN program last fall, bringing the total number of students at Grand Forks to 33 for the 2019-20 academic year.
The additional space has been added to the LRSC location at 1425 South Columbia Road to accommodate the growing number of nursing students, said Erin Wood, LRSC director of college relations. The expansion, which increases LRSC space by approximately 40%, includes another classroom and additional lab space that includes an observation room.
The college’s nursing programs are part of the Dakota Nursing Program, which uses technology to teach students, Wood said. The Grand Forks program also has full-time faculty on-site.
The open house and the ribbon cutting will take place on Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
