Animal Rescue League releases Code Blue from January 6

With a wind chill below 20 degrees predicted by the National Weather Service, the Berks County Animal Rescue League enacted the Code Blue Ordinance for the city of Reading during the following times:

January 6, 2022, starting at 8:00 a.m. and ending at 10:00 a.m.

January 6, 2022, starting at 7:00 p.m. and ending January 8, 2022 at 11:00 a.m.

January 8, 2022, starting at 6 p.m. and ending January 9, 2022 at 3 p.m.

Pursuant to Bill 22, an amendment added to the City Code, Chapter 141, Part 2 Pets, Section 205 Animal care in 2015, anyone who owns, owns or has care of a dog must bring the animal inside his residence. for the duration of the code, with the exception of supervised and necessary toilet breaks and exercise.

Additionally, non-compliance may result in the animal being removed by an Animal Control Officer from the property and impounded at the Berks County Animal Rescue League. Owners will have 48 hours after lifting the code to collect their animal and will be subject to applicable boarding fees.

Sergeant Hayden Carroll, head of the ARL’s Animal Welfare Department, notes that although the code is only applicable in the town of Reading, the recommendation applies to all pet owners in the County of Berks.

“The extremely cold temperatures forecast for our region over the next few days are potentially fatal for animals left outside to fend for themselves. We hope the townspeople take this threat seriously and bring their pets inside. “ Carroll said.

Anyone who sees a dog left unattended outside in the elements of the City of Reading should call the Berks County Animal Rescue League at 610-373-8830.
